Carma Branscum, VillagesOKC member, said, “VillagesOKC is all about keeping our brains strong and our minds sharp. Pickleball is the perfect combination of healthy physical exercise while using cognitive skills. It’s the perfect sport for mature adults and their grandchildren…to play together.”
With experience as an elementary Physical Education teacher, Branscum is taking the lead bringing the nations fastest growing sport to VillagesOKC. She always begins with stretching which helps the brain and the frame. Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net. The court size is about half of a tennis court.
The game is simple to learn and easy on the knees because each person begins at their own level. Those who say they have not ever been into sports or are not coordinated, soon find they are captivated by PICKLEBALL and loving the results of how much better they feel. Across the nation there are mature adults beating Parkinson's with Pickleball and enthusiasts overtaking all the available courts.
VillagesOKC is building a roster of curious and interested folks. Come join us! We’re beginning where Carma Branscum and OKC Pickleball Ambassador Donna McLean, play regularly—in Yukon. But as VillagesOKC PICKLEBALL interest grows, Carma and Donna will offer small workshop or seminar or getting VillagesOKC members and friends together at other locations across the greater Oklahoma City area.
